What can I expect from Prostate Specific Antigen (Total)?
Measures total PSA, a protein made by the prostate, used to screen for prostate cancer and to monitor treatment. It can also rise with an enlarged or inflamed prostate, so further tests are usually needed.
Can be done with home collection on request.
Who it often suits
Adult men.
Common frequency
Often once a year, with professional guidance (general guidance).
What gets tested?
Prostate Specific Antigen
How it works
- Ask for home collection on the test page. We contact you to arrange the visit, with its price and date.
- Your sample is analysed by our partner laboratory, accredited by UKAS.
- Your results arrive in your BPR Clinic account, with a doctor's report from our partner laboratory.
How do I read my results?
Each result comes with its reference range. Reference ranges are based on a healthy population, so a healthy person can fall outside them and someone with a health problem can fall within them. If a result is outside the range, or you have symptoms with a normal result, take your results to a doctor you trust, such as your GP.
