What it is for

  • Prostate Profile

    Why people check it

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, and PSA is one of the markers doctors look at. A high level does not mean cancer: ejaculation, an enlarged prostate or inflammation can raise it too, and a normal level is no guarantee either. That is why it is worth sharing the result with your doctor, and it helps most when it is checked regularly and compared over time.

  • Prostate Profile

    Who it is for

Men over 50 and men with prostate cancer in the family, who are often advised to check regularly and watch for changes, and men already being followed for prostate cancer.

  • Signs

People often check it, and see a doctor, when they notice

    • Needing to urinate often, or getting up many times at night to go
    • Pain or burning when urinating
    • Dribbling of urine
    • Blood in the urine or semen, or painful ejaculation
    • Frequent pain or stiffness in the lower back, hips, pelvis or upper thighs

It is yours: keep it, or send it to the doctor of your choice: only a doctor can say what it means for you. This page explains what the test is for; it does not replace a consultation.
